His many early encounters have so far given him direction in his artistic development.  In addition to his recent meetings with his good friend Jean-Paul Riopelle, Léon Cardin has had a chance to work with others like Simon Fortier who taught him graffiti art.  After practicing this new medium in the streets of old Quebec, he moved on to studying drawing with an architect named Paul Trudelle.  Two years later he leaves his family nest and tours Canada and then the United States, after which he decides to enroll in the Visual Arts program at the University of Laval.   More encounters follow as he packs yet another bag and leaves for Mexico where he practices Aztec Art, and ends his trip in the Dominican Republic.

As an artist he will participate in many exhibitions, one of them a group exhibition at Calligrammes Gallery following the theme of the Jeux de la Francophonie that took place in the summer of 2001. In 2002, Léon also participated in an exhibition at Calligrammes in Homage to Riopelle.
