"Most of the paintings of 'The Caribou of Samarkand' were done during the summer of 2007. They are all works on paper, using various materials, watercolor, ink, acrylic, etc. The expressive gesture is not as important as in the previous series and color covers the entire area of each painting, producing a more controlled composition. But the tone of this new series is similar to that of the previous one : contemplative, serene and joyful, but also complex and varied, in which the numerous allusions to the natural world, the poems written in the painting, a discrete but sometimes voracious sense of humor and the exploration of the multiple possibilities and nuances of color unite in an euphoric feeling with, sometimes, religious connotations."
