“Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you” (Ex 16:4) As part of the celebration designed by the Chilean government to recognize the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Laureate in Literature Pablo Neruda, Chilean born artist José Mansilla-Miranda presents the exhibition “Manna”. “Manna is a series of works inspired by the Book of Exodus. This series deals with issues of exodus and exile allowing me to rethink my identity” says Mansilla-Miranda. “The wanderer searches for Manna, which can be found in a country, nourishment, enlightenment, peace, and citizenship”. In his new series, Manna is represented by globular forms painted in red. Metaphorically it represents a state of mutation, transformation. Manna floats, intervenes, and penetrates the surface, a camouflage textile. Realistic symbols, which constitute the artist’s identity, painted over pink quatrefoil patterns also float over the institutionalized cartographic surface; a metaphor for the earth. |
